2012年、私は当時、住んでいたロンドンの博物館であるライオンの彫像と出会い、その彫像が持つ不思議な雰囲気に強く引き込まれた。
2016年、私は生活の拠点をすでに日本に戻していたが、ずっと心の片隅にあったライオンの彫像への思いに導かれて、かつて彫像が置かれていた半島を目指して、地中海トルコへ旅に出ることにした。
この旅で見聞きしたことがもととなり紡ぎ出される物語作品は、定まった形を持たず、生き物のように常に変容し続け、毎回、異なる印象を表出させる。糸島芸農2023では、芸術祭が開催される「海と陸との境界領域である半島」という糸島の場所性に着目しながら、この物語作品を語り直してみることにした。また、語り直すことを通して、場所や時代が変わっても変わることのない人間の営み、欲望や感情についても再び考えてみたいと思った。
同時に、今、糸島で生きるものたちと協働したいという願いから、糸島在住のアーティスト烏山結貴さんに作品の制作と展示に参加していただき、糸島に自生している植物を作品に取り入れることにした。糸島の植物に詳しく、植物と協働する智恵を持つ烏山結貴さん、そして、種が落ちた場所でしたたかに生き、他のものをも癒す力を持つ植物たちに感謝したい。

In 2012, I encountered a lion statue in a museum in London, where I was living at the time, and I was strongly drawn to the statue’s mysterious aura.
In 2016, I had already moved back to Japan, but the strong curiosity for the lion statue in my mind led me to take a trip to Mediterranean Turkey, to a peninsula where the statue was once placed.
This story-based work is created from what I saw and heard on the journey. It has no fixed form and it is constantly transforming, like a living creature, revealing a different impression each time I tell the story. At Itoshima Arts Farm 2023, I decided to tell this story again, paying attention to the geographical characteristics of the Itoshima Peninsula, a boundary area between sea and land. By telling the story again, I wanted to focus on the universality of human activities, desires, and emotions despite of different places and times.
At the same time, I wanted to collaborate with living things in Itoshima, so I invited an artist Yuki Karasuyama, who is from and based in Itoshima, to participate in the production and exhibition of the work. We incorporated plants naturally growing in Itoshima into the work.
I would like to thank Yuki Karasuyama for her expertise on the plants in Itoshima and her wisdom in working with them. I would also like to express my gratitude to the plants, which flexibly live at places where their seeds are dropped and have the power to heal others.
